Shifting Foundations: Self Confidence
What would it take to shift your confidence this year?
In this email series we are going to examine foundational elements of your life to help lay the groundwork for a powerful year as we enter the Year of the Fire Horse. With the Chinese zodiac, the Lunar New Year begins on February 17, 2026 making this a perfect time to review, reset and align with your highest potential.
The first foundation we are going to review is self confidence.
Take a moment to center yourself with a deep breath and then ask yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 (with 1 being low and 10 being high), where do you rate your self confidence?
Don’t overthink it. Go with your gut and write down the first number that pops into your head.
Then answer - why did you pick this number?
Take a look at your reasons.
Did you give yourself a certain rating based on how you are feeling about yourself right now? Are you basing the rating off of experiences in your past or your accomplishments? Does your answer reflect what others have said about you or is it your own opinions?
Then ask yourself what would it take to improve your rating? Take a moment to journal about this.
What would need to change in your life for you to rate your self confidence a 10? Are there external factors that would boost the number? Are any of these tangible? Or are there internal beliefs about yourself that need to shift?
You may notice a correlation between your self confidence and what is currently happening (or has recently happened in your life). Confidence comes easy when you feel good about yourself. What is your self confidence like when you’re down, when you falter, make a mistake or have a big upset in life?
How do you think about yourself then? Do you allow these circumstances to change your rating or how you feel inside?
Are you looking to your past as the indicator of how confident you are? For example, if you are thinking I am very confident because I launched a successful business, this is not necessarily a bad thing but notice if you are giving your achievements power over yourself.
Confidence comes from a collection of thoughts that we think about ourselves. When these thoughts repeat enough they turn into beliefs.
Our view of self and confidence may shift and change over the years and depending upon what is happening both inside and outside of us. The work is to understand that you can feel high self confidence regardless of these factors.
You can feel like a 10 even when you’ve “failed” at reaching a goal. You can feel like a 10 even when someone close to you has told you gained weight. You can feel like a 10 even when life “falls apart.” You can feel like a 10 even when you are disappointed with yourself.
To do so, you need to think intentionally about yourself regardless of the situation. The beautiful thing is you have the opportunity to choose and change your thoughts in any moment.
Here is how you can make these shifts:
Find a thought that feels true and aligned and hold onto it. Some example thoughts: “I choose to love myself through thick and thin;” “I am so proud of myself;” “I have the power to believe anything I want about myself;” “I know what is best for me in each and every moment.” Practice thinking kind and loving thoughts until they turn into belief. Practice them extra hard when life throws you lemons. Practice them until feeling like a 10 becomes second nature.
With love,
Naomi
