What Shifting Foundations Can Do For You
The power of taking a moment to pause and assess the foundations of your life
This week I’ve been thinking about the foundations we have in our lives and how they change over time.
When you are young, your foundation is your family and the place that they call home - a foundation that you don’t necessarily choose for yourself but one that shapes you nevertheless. As a teenager, you start to test or stretch the boundaries of the foundation that your family built. You may connect more with friends outside of your family or want to be away from your family home (I for one was a rebellious teenager who loved being away from home). In your 20’s, or whenever you first live on your own, this can be the first foray into creating your own space and sense of home. You get to decorate how you want, eat what you want, live how you want, and to figure out your routines (or lack thereof). For me, my 20’s was a period where I was figuring out who I was - a combination of discovering which elements of life made my heart sing and returning to foundations from my family that called to me or grounded me in who I am. By the time I hit my 30’s I felt confident in who I was and, for what felt like the first time in my life, I was very comfortable in my own skin.
It’s an interesting exercise to pause and to assess what are the founding pillars of your life where you sit in this moment. Think of the following elements and how you might rate them on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being much to improve and 10 being the bees knees:
Self Confidence
Relationships
Career
Money
Time
Health & Well-Being
Spirituality
If one of these pillars has a really high rating, why is that?
Similarly, if one has a low, low rating, why do you feel that way?
In answering these questions, I’d like to draw your attention to the potential or capability for these fundamental elements to change.
What would it take? Is there a small shift or a major one that needs to happen?
What would that look like if you could do it your way?
How would that change impact your life?
As we are full steam ahead into January 2026 and at a great time to construct the foundation we want to carry us through this year, in the next email series I am going to walk us through each of the pillars above with simple tools to assess each one along with ways for you to adjust and re-align as needed. Each email will give you some quick & deep-dive prompts that will help bring you to your highest and best potential and lay the groundwork for whatever you want to bring forth this year.
There’s noting you need to do other than follow along & journal your heart out.
